Remember during the pandemic, when many people distanced themselves from their loved ones for health reasons.
Now that the pandemic has passed, many grandparents want more than ever to be near their grandchildren again to make up for that lost time. But how are they getting that “Grandparent Wish?”
Recent data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shows people between the ages of 55 and 74 are moving farther than any other age group.
If you’re a grandparent, you know how important your grandchildren are. And you may be willing to sell and move just to be closer by, but with Southern California's high home prices how can you realize your dream? It may be easier than you think and could allow you to keep your existing family home and the years of connections you have made in your local community.
So how is it done? Introducing Bob and Mary.
‘Snowbirds” Mary and Bob Pomeroy
Mary and Bob live in a gorgeous, historic, North Hampshire home that has been in their family for generations. They have three daughters and a granddaughter, all who live and work in San Diego.
They invested in a stunning condo in Oaks North, San Diego. A resort style 55+ active community in Rancho Bernardo, conveniently located close to local shops, restaurants, wineries and San Diego’s many attractions.
They ‘snowbird’ during the winter to avoid the harsh weather of the Northeast and spend it in their gorgeous condo, close to family and get to spend precious time with their daughters and granddaughter. They travel back to North Hampshire in the summer to the family home when the weather is kinder.
During the summer months, they rent out their Rancho Bernardo Condo as a fully furnished rental on a month by month basis. This covers their costs of living in San Diego during the winter months and makes their condo a solid investment as property prices continue to rise.
They said, “We love our stay at Oaks North. Our daughters and grandchild are just a few minutes away and everything is so convenient. Golf, tennis, pickleball, and swimming are all a 5 minute walk from the condos. Groceries are a 5 minute drive or they deliver. The weather, fantastic!""
